The Apprentice starter set has everything you need to launch your first rocket, including the launch equipment, engines, and an easy-to-assemble rocket model. You just need to provide building supplies like glue, and the four AA-size batteries for the launch controller.

The Apprentice rocket kit is comes with a plastic nose cone and fin unit. The bright color make the rocket easy to find if it lands in tall grass. The Apprentice rocket is a breeze to assemble thanks to the plastic fin unit. It goes together in about 20 minutes.

However, this is not a shake-it-out-of-the-bag rocket. Your child will experience a sense of accomplishment by actually building his/her own rocket. It is something "they" build, that actually does fly high and fast. And because of the way the fins attach the rocket will fly straight-and-true every single time. It is also a rugged model, so it can be launched again and again.

This is one of the largest starter models available at 16" (40.64 cm) long and 1" (25mm) in diameter. This is important for two reasons. First, the model is easy to handle by younger kids. And second, the large size makes it fly slower, which means it is easier to see when it is launched. The Dynamo is a great rocket for launching insects into the air. That makes it great for science fairs. It is the first and only rocket in the world that features an injection-molded see-through plastic payload bay! The rocket assembles in about twenty minutes thanks to its pre-decorated body tube, colorful plastic nose cone and fin unit. It is a great first rocket for kids of all ages!

The Dynamo rocket can fly with standard size rocket engines and is just as impressive in the sky as on the launch pad. It descends to the ground with a 18 inch diameter parachute.

The quality of the plastic parts, such as the injection molded fins and the blow molded nose cone is very impressive. About the only difference from USA made kits is that the engine mount is ever so slightly larger due to a small difference between the rocket motors flown by Chinese modelers versus the standard 18mm diameter motors flown here in the USA. But 18mm diameter motors work just fine in this kit; no modifications are needed.

One neat feature of the rocket is the convolutely wound paper body tubes. The tubes and rings of the Dynamo rocket are unique in that they are convolutely rolled, as opposed to the spiral-wound tubes that are in other rockets. Convolutely wound means a whole sheet of paper was rolled up to make a tube. It is a little bit stronger than a spiral wound tube because there are no seams along the length of the tube. The other advantage of this is that the pattern of the rocket can be printed right on the model! With this rocket, you'll get a multi-color pattern that looks great when sitting on your display shelf.

Recommended 18mm diameter rocket engine: Estes A8-3, B6-4, C6-5, Apogee Components D10-5, or Quest Aerospace A6-4

Requires a rocket launch pad, plus assembly supplies like glue and tape.

The Quest Novia features laser-cut balsa wood fins which glue directly to the body tube. Each Quest Novia comes with a paper cradle that students can quickly assemble to help hold the model rocket when the fins are drying. This is a big help in getting those fins to dry straight!

The Quest Novia works well for groups where time is not a critical issue (it will take 24 hours for the fins to really set) and where the motor skill ability of the group is at the middle school level or above.
